About Access Books Bay Area


Access Books Bay Area is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing high-quality books and literacy support to underfunded public schools in the Bay Area. We believe that every child deserves access to engaging and diverse books, and we work to improve school libraries and reading spaces for students in need.


Position Overview


The Treasurer is a key member of our leadership team, responsible for managing the financial operations of Access Books Bay Area. This volunteer role ensures the financial integrity of the organization by maintaining accurate records, monitoring transactions, and preparing financial reports. The Treasurer works closely with the board and fundraising team to support the organization’s mission through sound financial oversight.


Key Responsibilities


Financial Transaction Oversight

  • Review, process, gather, and compile accounting transactions and documents for completeness, accuracy, and compliance.

  • Monitor bank account activity and reconcile transactions.


Financial Reporting & Compliance

  • Compile, maintain, and review data for accuracy in monthly financial reports.

  • Generate standardized financial statements for board meetings.

  • Ensure transactions are consistent, properly authorized, and compliant with nonprofit accounting practices.


Support Fundraising & Operations

  • Respond to financial inquiries from the fundraising team and board members.

  • Provide financial guidance to support budgeting and decision-making.


Qualifications & Skills

  • Basic accounting knowledge, including familiarity with nonprofit financial management.

  • Experience with bookkeeping, financial reporting, or related financial duties.

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to ensure financial accuracy.

  • Proficiency with accounting software, spreadsheets, and online banking tools.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with board members, fundraisers, and other volunteers.

  • Commitment to the mission of Access Books Bay Area.


Time Commitment


This is a part-time volunteer position, with an estimated time commitment of 8-10 hours per month. The Treasurer is expected to attend board meetings and provide financial reports as needed.
